About 90 people will resume searching Sunday for a hiker from Virginia who has been missing at Baxter State Park since Thursday.
Baxter park rangers, Maine game wardens, dog teams and volunteers will continue to look on the ground for John Lyon, 78, of Dumfries, Virginia. Searchers also plan to send up a Maine Forest Service plane to search for him on Sunday.
Lyon left his three fellow hikers Thursday at lunch, planning to hike ahead. He hasn’t been seen since about 1:30 p.m. that day.
He was last seen north of the peak of Mount Coe and was on the OJI-Coe-Marston trail loop in the park.
Baxter park rangers said Lyon has hiked the Appalachian Trail, which culminates at Mount Katahdin in the state park, and is considered a very experienced hiker.
