NEWCASTLE — Champagne on the Sheepscot is set for 4:30-7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at a Westport Island property. RSVPs for the event are needed by this Friday, Sept. 4. Tickets are $45 per person and can be purchased by calling Sheepscot Valley Conservation Association at 586-5616.

The property overlooking the Sheepscot River was graciously offered for this seventh running of the event by its co-owners Joan and William Sartoris and Lorraine Tregde, Joan’s sister.

The event, always a fun-filled party, is the major fundraiser for the association, whose mission is to protect the Sheepscot River watershed.

Three tents will be set up on the property and guests can mingle there and on the back porch and lawn with its view of the Sheepscot River. Students from Lincoln Academy’s Four O’clock and Five O’clock jazz combos will serenade guests.

There will be a raffle for a 36-inch-by-36-inch oil painting “The Last of the Summer Flowers,” donated by local artist Belva Ann Prycel. Raffle tickets will be sold only that evening; $5 for one ticket or $20 for five tickets. In addition there will be an art show with other paintings by Prycel as well as many other local artists. The art includes oils, watercolors, pen and ink, pottery and baskets. A portion of each sale will go to SVCA.

Jody Brown will again be in charge of the kitchen and again Lincoln Academy students will serve the hors d’oeuvres prepared for the most part by SVCA volunteers. Champagne and other alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages will be served by SVCA member bartenders.

Major sponsors of this year’s event include Ames True Value Hardware & Supply in Wiscasset, First Advisors, Snow Squall Inn & Wicked Good Yoga and Big Barn Coffee with other local businesses also contributing financially or with food or drink. For the seventh year, flowers are being donated by Sheepscot Flower Farm.
