A four-week personal finance class will begin Thursday, Sept. 24. The class, Mainely Money, will be hosted in a webinar format and available to adults throughout the state. Students in the class can learn about budgeting, credit, banking and other personal finance matters. NeighborWorks Homeownership Services of Maine, a group of five affiliates of NeighborWorks America, will offer the program, according to a news release from Kennebec Valley Community Action Program.
Students will also have the opportunity for free financial coaching from three of the member organizations — Coastal Enterprises Inc., Community Concepts Inc. and Kennebec Valley Community Action Program. Financial coaching includes working with a trained, certified coach to identify and clarify financial goals, then develop a reasonable plan for achieving those goals. With the help of a coach, students can explore the possibility of homeownership, refinancing a mortgage or student loans, reducing debts or even short-term goals, like saving for the holidays.
The program is designed to empower Mainers to take control of their finances and reach personal goals. To register for the course, visit www.planetreg.com/kvcap and select Mainely Money. The course fee is $30 per person and includes more than four hours of instruction, four hours of one-on-one coaching, a credit report and individualized tools to assist students with reaching their goals.
