FRANKLIN, N.H. — A New Hampshire town’s decision to reinstate a curfew for kids may have drawn opposition from the American Civil Liberties Union— but some residents support it.
Franklin residents tell The Concord Monitor the curfew is necessary and that kids shouldn’t be roaming the streets at 2 or 3 in the morning. Others say it will prevent loitering.
The Franklin City Council voted Tuesday night to reinstate a 9 p.m. curfew for children under 16. The Sunday-through-Thursday curfew requires them to be off city streets and public places when they hear the fire station’s horn signal. It lasts until 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
The ACLU of New Hampshire sent an email to Franklin’s mayor, council members, city attorney, police chief and others, saying it was unconstitutional and bad policy.
