A huge thank-you to the residents of Matthews Avenue, Western Avenue, First Rangeway and most of Cool Street and Oakland Street for taking pride and personal responsibility with home and yard care. It’s always a pleasure taking our daily walks.

Shame to some homeowners on my own street and other neighborhoods who literally let the grass grow waist high, construction projects dangerously unfinished, and garbage strewn about. Some have every inch of their property filled with junk, broken-down vehicles, rotting outbuildings or have turned their front lawn into a driveway.

In 40 years of living on Oakland Street, I have never seen so many who do not mow the strip beyond the sidewalk. It takes only two minuets.

With a bit of sweat and personal pride, blight would turn into the pride we used to have.

Yes, we are all busy with life. A little less time on the computer or watching TV would allow time to take care of the biggest investment of their life and increase the value of their neighbor’s homes.
