As both a Waterville resident and a graduate of Clinton Elementary School, I was excited to read that my former teacher, Steve Soule, is running to represent Ward 1 on our City Council.

Steve is a wonderful guy, who made a three-decade career as an educator and school principal, and decided in his “retirement” to continue improving the lives of children through his work at the South End Teen Center.

One of the most enduring lessons Steve taught me, and thousands of other young people, is that just about anything can be done. He also taught us that most things worth doing require commitment, patience and a willingness to overcome the obstacles that inevitably challenge any endeavor.

I have no doubt that if he is elected, Steve Soule will put that sort of tenacious, can-do attitude to work for the people of Ward 1, and of Waterville.
