WATERVILLE — The Colby men’s soccer team has had little success against New England Small College Athletic Conference rival Williams in recent years.
The Mules entered the showdown Saturday having not beaten the Ephs in 15 years.
That all changed Saturday.
Senior captain Tim Stanton scored with 31 seconds left in double overtime to give Colby a dramatic 2-1 victory over Williams.
Dan Vogel assisted on the game-winner for the Mules (2-2 overall, 1-1 in the NESCAC). The Ephs dropped to 2-2 overall, 1-1 in NESCAC play as well.
Since 2000, the Mules had never scored a goal in eight home games against Williams.
Jeff Rosenberg snapped that streak when he scored with 12 minutes, 20 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 1-all.
In double overtime, Stanton headed in Vogel’s corner kick to give the Mules the victory.
John Pappas made eight saves for the Mules while Christian Alcorn stopped nine for Williams.
UMF 2, JOHNSON STATE 0: Ibrahim Achekh and Yusuf Yama each scored goals to lead the Beavers to a North Atlantic Conference win over the Badgers in Johnson, Vt.
Luke Sterling and Austin Dooley each had an assist for UMF (3-2, 1-0 NAC).
Johnson State dropped to 1-4 (0-1 NAC).
BATES 2, THOMAS 1: Willie Clemons scored the lone goal as the Terriers fell in Lewiston.
Tre Ming assisted on Clemons’ goal. Joakim Sternas had 13 saves for Thomas (2-3-0).
Luis Pereira had a goal and an assist for Bates (4-0-0).
WOMEN’S SOCCER
WILLIAMS 8, COLBY 0: Sam Rizzo had 11 saves for the Mules, but it wasn’t enough to top Williams in a NESCAC match in Waterville.
Colby dropped to 1-2 (0-2 NESCAC).
Audrey Thomas scored four goals for the Ephs (4-0, 3-0 NESCAC).
JOHNSON STATE 5, UMF 1: Dayle Jordan scored the lone goal for the Beavers in a NAC loss to the Badgers in Johnson, Vt.
Sam Hatch had five saves for UMF (2-3, 0-1 NAC).
Kylie Aither scored four goals for Johnson State (2-5, 1-0 NAC).
MAINE 2, LIU BROOKLYN 1: Charlene Achille scored a goal and had an assist to lead the Black Bears past the Blackbirds in Orono.
Ashley Robinson added a goal for Maine (2-6).
Madison Gomez notched a goal for LIU Brooklyn (5-3).
THOMAS 4, DANIEL WEBSTER 1: Bronte Howarth had a goal and an assist to lead the Terriers in Nashua, N.H.
Kajsa Kaufeldt, Cassie Contigiani and Lauren Pelletier scored for Thomas (3-3-0).
Bria Taylor scored a goal for Daniel Webster (0-4-0).
FIELD HOCKEY
MAINE 7, SIENA 1: The Black Bears picked up their seventh consecutive win with a victory at the Catamount Classic over Siena.
Samantha Wagg led Maine (7-1) with two goals. Katie Bingle, Danielle Aviani, Sydney Veljacic, Marissa Shaw and Madison Cummings added goals for the Black Bears.
Ashley Donna scored the lone goal for the Saints (1-4).
WILLIAMS 3, COLBY 2: Hannah Goodrick’s goal with 16 minutes remaining in the second half gave the Ephs a victory over the Mules in a NESCAC game in Waterville.
Misha Strage scored both goals for Colby (2-2, 0-2 NESCAC). Sarah Evans had 15 saves.
Alex Bennett scored two goals for Williams (4-0, 2-0 NESCAC).
MOUNT HOLYOKE 5, THOMAS 1: Sophany Srey scored the lone goal for the Terriers in loss to Mount Holyoke in South Hadley, Mass.
Gabby Martell had an assist for Thomas (2-3). Mount View graduate Abbie Charrier had three saves.
Charlotte Wagner had three goals for Mount Holyoke (3-3).
