Maine’s Gov. Paul LePage continues to deny the people of Maine access to their own money by withholding Land for Maine’s Future funds.

I’m really glad my mother, Sylvia Lund, didn’t have to see this. I can still remember the excitement she shared about serving on the first LMF Board. She understood that the LMF program established a legacy for all of Maine’s people by helping protect and preserve the beauty of our great state while ensuring public access to its lands.

Whatever justification LePage gives for his actions doesn’t hold a candle to the dedication of countless volunteers who have contributed time, money and land to this program in the nearly 30 years since it was created. My mother would have had an even harder time understanding a governor who seems happiest when he can make other people unhappy. I wouldn’t be able to explain it, either.

Alfred Lund, Winthrop
