DRESDEN — Jim Leamon will deliver a free talk, Charles E. Allen, Local Historian — And Much More, at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, in the Court Room of the Pownalborough Court House. Allen, author of “History of Dresden, Maine,” was a complex man who led an interesting life. The Lincoln County Historical Association will host the event.

Leamon will speak on the formative influences of Allen’s youth, his employment in the publishing field, his military service in the Civil War, his move from Cambridge, Massachusetts, to Dresden, and the reasons for it, his role as local historian and politician, and his efforts as labor organizer, according to a news release from Robbins Historical Research Inc.

Leamon, who lives in Casco, is the author of “Revolution Downeast: The War for American Independence in Maine,” “The Reverend Jacob Bailey, Maine Loyalist or God, King, Country, and for Self” and “The Military Art of J. Thomas Leamon: Drawings, Paintings and More in the Wake of Two World Wars.”
