BANGOR – Maine’s freshman congressman is continuing to amass a campaign war chest with more than $1.2 million in cash on hand.

Republican Rep. Bruce Poliquin’s 2016 Re-Election Campaign Committee says it has raised $450,000 in past three months. The full report will be filed by the Oct. 15 deadline with the Federal Election Commission.

Democrat Emily Cain, who lost to Poliquin in 2014, and Joe Baldacci are vying for the Democratic nomination.

Observers expect a costly campaign in the 2nd Congressional District. Democrats say they’re hopeful of beating Poliquin in a presidential election year in which there will be a higher turnout.
