BINGHAM — Firefighters fought a structure fire that broke out on Meadow Street around 4 p.m. Sunday.

John Miller, of Vassalboro, was driving through Bingham and witnessed the firefighters trying to douse the blaze around 4:30 p.m. He said that he did not believe the owners were on the property at the time the fire broke out or that anyone was hurt .

Miller said that firefighters from the Bingham Fire Department were having a difficult time combating the fire against a strong northwest wind, but around 5 p.m., a crew from the Solon Fire Department arrived with a water truck, and together they seemed able to get the fire under control.

Somerset County Chief Deputy James Ross said Sunday evening that there was no information on whether anyone was in the barn at the time of the fire.

No more information was available at press time.
