Bill to reform prison sentencing gains traction

A Senate panel approves a bill to give judges discretion to impose lesser sentences than federal mandatory minimums.

The measure, co-sponsored by Maine Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King, now goes to the House.

The equipment is the first confirmed debris from the ship that sank in Hurricane Joaquin to wash up on shore.
