The Kennebec Valley Community Action Program will host an Open House from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, at the Skowhegan Early Head Start Child Care Center, l on School Administrative District 54’s Bloomfield Campus in Skowhegan.
Services at the center are made possible through a collaboration among KVCAP, Educare Central Maine, SAD 54, and the Bill and Joan Alfond Foundation. KVCAP’s Early Head Start/Child Care Partnership grant, private funding, and support from the Maine Early Learning Investment Group, also offer the opportunity to extend supports to community center based and family child care providers. Each partner is committed to the belief that the foundation for student achievement and lifelong success is built in the early years, and is dedicated to building a high-quality birth to kindergarten entry early care and education system in Somerset County.
Using the Educare program model, KVCAP staff will deliver and support Early Head Start services for infants, toddlers and three year olds, offer coaching to staff/providers on best practices in the field of early childhood education, as well as evaluate outcomes of the children, families and staff. Community child care providers who join the initiative will have access to professional development supports, resources for learning environments, and participate in evaluation activities. All supports are designed to assist community child care providers in meeting their professional development and service delivery goals related to high quality early childhood education.
