Free ME from Lung Cancer hosted a Hawaiian Luau dinner and live auction Oct. 17 at Le Club Calumet in Augusta.

The auction raised more than $25,000 to support the foundation’s mission — research, education and community support, according to a news release from Deb Violette, president and CEO of Free ME from Lung Cancer.

The event was emceed by Michael Fortin of The Power Mixers D.J. Service. WGME Channel 13 Sports Director Dave Eid was the keynote speaker.

Violette and Roger Pomerleau, marketing director, unveiled the foundations thermometer indicating that they are half way to funding their first research grant.

According to the release, Violette said that one research grant cost $100,000 to fund.

Entertainment was provided by Hula Hands of Portland.
