WATERVILLE — Tufts University junior running back Chance Brady rushed for 212 yards, scored on two long runs, and caught two passes for 49 yards in a 28-10 win over Colby College on Saturday at Seaverns Field at Harold Alfond Stadium on Saturday.

Tufts moves to 5-2 overall heading into next Saturday’s home game with Middlebury College. Colby drops to 1-6 and will play at rival Bowdoin College at the same time.

Brady had 176 rushing yards at halftime to give the Jumbos a 14-3 lead at the break. Both of his scoring runs also occurred in the first half and both came on the first play of a drive.

In the second quarter, Colby punter John Baron had a booming 45-yard put to Tufts’ 10-yard line, but Mike Rando returned the kick 41 yards to the Colby 49-yard line.

Brady shocked the Mules again by going right on the first play, used his speed to get away from tacklers, and bolted 49 yards for a 14-0 Jumbo lead with 7:42 to intermission.

Colby went 41 yards in eight plays in the final 50 seconds to get a collegiate-long 37-yard field goal from Baron on the last play of the half. Colby quarterback Gabe Harrington had a 17-yard rush and had a 15-yard completion to Henry Holmes on the drive.

BATES 31, BOWDOIN 0: With an emphatic victory at Garcelon Field, Bates won the CBB (Colby-Bates-Bowdoin) title outright for the second straight year and the third time in four years.

Bates’ (2-5) senior class becomes the only one in the modern era, and the first since 1900, to win three CBB titles outright. Bates has also won at least a share of CBB bragging rights for five years in a row and in six of the past seven.

The victory also represented Bates’ first shutout win since 2002, and its first against Bowdoin since 1989.

Senior quarterback Patrick Dugan rushed for 137 yards and a touchdown and passed for 114 yards and a score to lead the Bobcat offense, with Mark Riley catching five passes for 93 yards and a touchdown.

SALVE REGINA 49, MAINE MARITIME 14: James Ferrar had 101 rushing yards on 20 carries and two touchdowns but it was not enough as the Mariners fell in a New England Conference game in Middletown, R.I.

Quarterback Michael Fahey accounted for 79 of the Mariners’ (2-6, 1-5) 258 rushing yards and Lawrence graduate Jacob Doolan chipped in 63 yards on nine carries. Gardiner graduate Justin Lovely had eight tackles for MMA.

NORWICH 20, HUSSON 17: The Cadets clinched the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA DIII tournament with the win in Northfield, Vt. The Eagles, however, can still get in the tournament with a win over Mount Ida next weekend.

The Eagles accumulated 386 offensive yards but Norwich had four strong fourth down stops to keep Husson off the board. Husson’s John Smith, who leads the league in rushing yards, rushed for 173 yards. Joe Seccareccia threw for 169 yards and an interception. Cony graduate Jonathan Saban had 42 yards on four catches. Rick Orio, another Cony grad, had a sack as did Maranacook graduate Ian Palmer.
