Power was restored to Lincoln County customers Friday morning after an outage of several hours was caused by a faulty insulator.

As many as 6,300 customers were temporarily without power Friday morning at 1:30 a.m. after a faulty insulator caused a transmission line to malfunction and ignite a fire where the line crossed a utility pole, said CMP spokeswoman Gail Rice.

The line served three substations. Power was quickly restored to some customers by rerouting electrical service but customers in Waldoboro and several other towns in and near Lincoln County were without power until about 8 a.m. when CMP line crews completed repairs.
