MANCHESTER — Holiday decorations hand-made by about 45 local volunteers, including centerpieces, kissing balls, wreaths, poinsettias and fully decorated trees, as well as gift baskets and items donated by local businesses, will be up for auction Sunday to help raise money for a local heating assistance fund.
Festivities begin at 2 p.m. Sunday at Manchester Elementary School, where an annual auction will be held to raise money for the Manchester Fuel Fund. The fund, according to Valerie Dawes, an organizer of the event, provides money to help Manchester residents who need help with winter heating costs. Over the past three years, nearly $10,000 has been raised through the fund.
Items made by 45 volunteers over several days at the Manchester Lions clubhouse will be available in both a silent auction from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and a live auction starting at 3 p.m. The items include 60 fresh centerpieces, boxwood trees, kissing balls, wreaths, three fully decorated trees and items donated by local businesses.
Hot soup, chili and coffee will be available at the event.
Afterward, at 4 p.m., tree lighting ceremonies are planned to be held in front of the adjacent Manchester Town Office. Santa Claus is expected to arrive by firetruck for the tree lighting and Christmas caroling.
