BINGHAM — Cody Laweryson scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Valley boys basketball team to a 72-44 win over Buckfield in an East/West Conference game Saturday.

Valley (1-0) jumped out to a 32-2 first-quarter lead and never looked back. Austin Cates added 12 points while Collin Miller had 10.

Buckfield (0-1) was led by Jake Kraske with 13 points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

VINALHAVEN 50, FOREST HILLS 42: Gilleyanne Davis-Oakes and Skylar Sandborn each scored 15 points to pace Vinalhaven past Forest Hills.

Paige Dennison added eight for the Vikings (2-0), which rallied from an 11-4 deficit.

Linda Riley scored a team-high 13 points and Caitlin Logston scored 11 to lead Forest Hills (0-2).

VALLEY 38, BUCKFIELD 26: Kendra Sweet scored eight points to lead the Cavaliers to the East/West Conference win in Bingham.

Haven Mayhew added seven points for Valley (1-0) while Charlie Savoy chipped in six.

Buckfield (0-1) was led by Ashlie Campbell and Alexis Bennett with seven points apiece.
