A Norridgewock man accused of multiple motor vehicle break-ins and a Skowhegan woman who allegedly broke into an elementary school in July and stole a hamster are among 17 people indicted by a Somerset County grand jury this week.

Kenneth Austin, 33, of Norridgewock, was indicted Wednesday on charges of burglary of a motor vehicle on two counts, theft on two counts and violating conditions of release on two counts.

In a separate case, Austin was also indicted on charges of assault and violating condition of release in connection with a November incident in which he allegedly assaulted a man who accused Austin of stealing from him.

After the assault, the sister of the man who had been assaulted told police that Austin had committed the two motor vehicle burglaries in Norridgewock earlier that month and had given her jewelery that he had stolen out of one of the cars, according to a police affidavit filed in Skowhegan District Court.

Austin is facing eight separate cases of motor vehicle burglaries and thefts in Somerset County, including the Nov. 11 incident involving break-ins of two vehicles on Main Street and Welch Street.

Also indicted Wednesday was Alexis Lloyd, 19, of Skowhegan, who in July was summoned on charges of burglary and theft for her alleged role in a break-in at the Cornville Regional Charter School and theft of a pet hamster, among other items.

Lloyd has subsequently been charged with an additional five counts of burglary and five counts of theft for other alleged break-ins in Anson, Cornville and Starks, according to court records.

While not an indicator of guilt, an indictment is a formal accusation that indicates the grand jury believes there is enough evidence to go to trial. Also indicted Wednesday were the following people:

Laura M. Anderson, 50, a transient, charged with acquiring drugs by deception on Oct. 25 in Skowhegan.

Amber Beane, 25, of Skowhegan, charged with theft and violation of conditions of release on Nov. 21 in Skowhegan.
