GARDINER — Police arrested a local man and are looking for a second suspect after a homeowner interrupted a burglary Friday afternoon at a Highland Avenue home.
Police went to the home in response to a report of a burglary and learned that two suspects had fled on foot before their arrival. Nothing was reported missing from the residence.
Gardiner police tracked two suspects on Harrison Avenue and they split up and ran, according to Chief James Toman. One was arrested after a foot chase through the woods off Harrison Avenue, along Cobbosseecontee Stream.
Nickalaus Vigue, 35, of Gardiner, was arrested and charged with burglary, theft, criminal mischief and failure to submit to arrest or detention, Toman said.
Vigue suffered a small cut when he was taken into custody and was checked out by Gardiner Rescue before being taken to the Kennebec County jail, according to Toman.
Toman said police tentatively have identified the second suspect, for whom they still were looking Friday night.
Gardiner police were assisted in the incident by the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office, Maine State Police and Hallowell police.
