Augusta — Sen. Rod Whittemore (R-Somerset) invites students to visit the State House to take part in the Senate’s honorary page program during the second session of the 127th Legislature, which convenes in January.

As an honorary page, students take part in the legislative session by distributing documents and assisting legislators on the floor of the Senate.

“During my time in the Legislature, I have enjoyed welcoming many young people to the State House, and look forward to doing so again this year. Getting an up close look at how our government functions can help motivate students to become or stay involved in civic life,” Sen Whittemore said in a news release from his office.

Parents or teachers can call the Maine Senate Majority Office at 287-1505 to sign up a student or group of students. Be prepared with the name, grade, hometown and school name for each student. n addition, please also have in mind a few different dates that would work well. For January and February, the Senate will largely be in session only on Tuesdays and Thursdays with more days of the week added in March and April.
