HALLOWELL — Hallowell’s Cultural Committee will host a performance of Hall-Dale High School’s student jazz groups at 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 31, at Hallowell City Hall Auditorium, 1 Winthrop St. The concert is a warm up to the students’ participation in the High School Jazz Festival in Boston in early February. Admission is free, though donations will be accepted to support projects of the Hallowell Cultural Committee or Hall-Dale High School Music Department (donor’s choice).

In the event of inclement weather, this event will be canceled. Visit “Hallowell Music & Arts” on Facebook page.

On Feb. 6, students will head to Berklee College of Music’s High School Jazz Festival at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston.

Berklee’s annual event is the largest of its kind in the United States where big bands, combos, and vocal jazz ensembles perform and compete throughout the day. All ensembles are adjudicated by a panel of Berklee’s faculty and will receive a written critique of their performance. The day’s events will also include performances by Berklee faculty, tours of the campus, open jam sessions, and more. This is the first time Hall-Dale has participated in this event.

The Hallowell Cultural Committee is a consortium of citizens and organizations including Gaslight Theater, Hallowell Board of Trade, Harlow Gallery, Hubbard Free Library and Vaughan Homestead Foundation.
