KITTERY— Portsmouth Naval Shipyard is getting a new commander later this year.

Capt. David S. Hunt has been tapped by the Naval Sea Systems Command to lead the shipyard that repairs and overhauls nuclear-powered submarines.

Hunt said Thursday that he looks forward to returning to the shipyard.

He previously served as operations officer at the shipyard, and currently serves as the Naval Sea Systems Command’s military deputy for shipyard operations.

He’ll replace Capt. William Greene, who’s served as shipyard commander since May 2013. The change in command is expected to take place this summer.
