AUGUSTA — Malcolm Lavallee scored a game-high 10 points to help the Winthrop High School unified basketball team to a 31-24 win over Cony on Friday afternoon in the season opener for both teams.
“Cony was a very competitive team with a great coach. Amazing sportsmanship was seen throughout the game,” Winthrop coach Joan Thompson said. “An amazing way to start the season.”
Dillon Coston added eight points in the win while Nathan Jewell had the game’s only 3-pointer on his way to seven points. Lucas Thompson and Nick Childs added four and two points, respectively, for Winthrop (1-0).
Ethan MacGregor and Matthew Baker each scored six points for Cony (0-1), while Sara Carlton, Aaron Gray and Addie Bowden all finished with four points apiece.
