Hallowell police are investigating two crashes that occurred Sunday on Greenville Street, one of which sent a Farmingdale couple to the hospital.
Police Chief Eric Nason said Russell Belair and Jodi Harvey, both 52, were taken to MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta following a single vehicle crash Sunday that was reported at 4:49 p.m.
“It appears that the vehicle could not navigate a turn in the road, which was probably the result of speed, and then hit a snowbank and after hitting the snowbank hit a tree,” Nason said.
He said Belair was the driver and Harvey the passenger.
On Monday, a hospital spokeswoman said Harvey was treated and released and that Belair remains hospitalized in fair condition.
Nason said the 2014 Hyundai sustained extensive damage and was towed from the scene.
He said police are awaiting test results to determine whether the accident was alcohol-related.
The investigation continues into that crash as well as a hit-and-run accident that was reported at 4:42 a.m. Sunday, when an unknown vehicle struck a vehicle parked on Greenville Street, leaving the parked vehicle with extensive damage.
Nason said the parked vehicle was registered to an owner in West Gardiner.
“We are in the process of trying to locate the suspect vehicle,” Nason said on Monday morning.
