Brunswick firefighters prevented a garage fire from spreading to a nearby house early Thursday morning.
The garage was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived at 287 Hacker Road shortly after 5 a.m., said Fire Chief Ken Brillant. The house was about 10 feet from the detached garage.
The flames had melted the siding on one end of the house and was starting to catch on fire when the fire department arrived. Brillant said his crews were able to stop the fire from spreading to the house, but the garage was a total loss.
Firefighters spent about two hours on the scene putting out hot spots, which Brillant said took a while because the garage roof and one wall had collapsed. No one was injured.
Brillant said the department’s fire prevention office and the Brunswick Police Department are speaking with the homeowners as they try to determine how the fire started.
