An 18-year-old woman was killed Monday night after her car left the road and struck a tree in Bowdoin.

Mira R. Graziano of Bowdoin was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene of the accident on Route 201 near Rocky Ridge Orchard, according to Sagadahoc County Sheriff Joel Merry.

The accident was reported to police around 10:30 p.m. and responding deputies found Graziano’s 2002 Ford Explorer SUV off the road. The cause of the accident is unknown and remains under investigation, Merry said.

“The vehicle was traveling north on Brunswick Road when it apparently veered off the road and struck a tree,” Merry said. “Because the driver was not wearing a seatbelt, she sustained serious injuries that caused the fatality.”

The accident is being reconstructed by members of the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office.
