Joseph Reisert’s recent column (“The unsustainable national debt,” Feb. 6) accurately describes the danger inherent in our national debt situation.

However, those eager to balance the budget should be prepared to enumerate those programs (aside from bloated military expenditures) that they are willing to see either eliminated or severely curtailed.

The reality is that we are all getting more government services than we are willing to pay for. I don’t believe the American people are at all willing to endure the austerity that a balanced budget would require. In that sense we’re just like the Greeks.
