DARTMOUTH, Mass. — The producers of a Mark Wahlberg movie about the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings have asked for permission to film at a university attended by one of the attackers.

A spokesman for the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth tells The Standard-Times of New Bedford that school officials want to ask students and other stakeholders before deciding.

Location scouts for the movie “Patriots’ Day” have also reached out to residents of a Watertown neighborhood where police were involved in a shootout with brothers Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

Dzhokhar was a 19-year-old sophomore at UMass-Dartmouth at the time. He returned to campus after two explosions at the finish line killed three and injured more than 260 people.

Tamerlan Tsarnaev was killed in a shootout with police in the days following the bombing. Dzhokhar, who was tried and sentenced to death, is now incarcerated in a maximum security prison in Florence, Colorado.
