The Cinderella Project of Maine free prom dress giveaway is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 16 at Gardiner Area High School, organizers announced Thursday.

The project collects gently used prom gowns donated by community members and businesses. The gowns are given away to high school students, with organizers asking those who receive a dress to “pay it forward.”

Dressing rooms will be available and project volunteers will help in the selection process. Last year, the event was held at Johnson Hall in Gardiner, but it was moved to the high school this year because of the need for more space.

The group has more than 500 dresses but is still seeking donations of dresses in all sizes, but there is a particular need for those size 10 and up. From 9 a.m. to noon on March 26, the Cinderella Project will be accepting donated dresses at the high school. For more information, go to www.cinderellaprojectofmaine.org.
