A 15-year-old girl from Bowdoinham was charged with terrorizing Friday, a day after she allegedly wrote a threat on a bathroom wall at Mt. Ararat High School in Topsham.

Topsham police said school resource officer Randy Cook identified the girl as a suspect based on an anonymous tip. The teen, whose name is not being released because of her age, was issued a summons for terrorizing late Friday morning, according to police.

“The handwritten threat indicated a potential act of violence against the school in the near future,” Topsham police said in a news release. “The threat did not involve the use of a bomb or explosive device and did not provide any evidence suggesting the threat was credible or immediate.”

Police say they believe the girl acted alone. She is expected to appear in West Bath District Court on May 2.

Mt. Ararat students were not in school Friday because it was a professional development day for school employees.
