STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. — Olivia Amber earned Colby College’s first-ever All-American honor in the school’s nordic program after finishing ninth in the 15-kilometer mass start at the NCAA Division I Skiing Championships on Saturday. Amber finished first among Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association skiers with a time of 55:30.7.

On Friday night, the Mules’ Mardi Haskell became an All-American for the third time on the alpine course as she placed fourth in the slalom for the second year in a row with a two-run total time of 1:31.15.

“The level of skiing on this stage is so high that it’s easy for new skiers to come in and take your place,” Colby head coach Danny Noyes said in a press release Saturday. “Mardi showed she was committed to getting back to the top. It’s the second year in a row that she finished as the first American skier and the first non-scholarship athlete.”

INDOOR TRACK

GRINNELL, Iowa — Colby College’s Alanna McDonough placed fifth in the mile to earn All-American status at the NCAA Division III Women’s Track and Field Championships. McDonough is now a two-time All-American, with the other coming last spring in the 3,000 steeplechase during the outdoor season.

Also in Grinnell, Waterville graduate Nick Margitza earned All-America honors in the men’s championship by placing sixth in the shot put. Margitza, who now competes for Bates, had a throw of 16.57 meters

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

TRINITY 13, COLBY 3: Martha Griffin had three goals and three assists to lead the Bantams to the New England Small College Athletic Conference win in Hartford, Connecticut.

Clare Lyne, Nicole Stauffer and Abby McInerney each added two goals for Trinity (4-0, 2-0).

Dana Swaffield scored two goals for Colby (1-1, 1-1 NESCAC) while Kendall Smith had the other goal. Izzy Scribano made nine saves.

MEN’S LACROSSE

TRINITY 9. COLBY 6: Henry Coote made 13 of his 17 saves in the second half to help the Bantams hold off the Mules at Alfond Stadium in Waterville.

Ben Knaus scored three goals to pace Trinity (1-2, 1-2 NESCAC), who led 6-5 at halftime.

Sam Wasserman had a goal and an assist in the loss for Colby (1-2, 1-2 NESCAC).

SOFTBALL

UM-FARMINGTON 12-3, UM-PRESQUE ISLE 4-5: The Beavers opened their season with a split with the Owls in the Mahaney Dome in Orono.

UMF (1-1) pounded out 10 hits to coast to the win in the opener and was led by Kyle Cunningham, who went 4 for 4 with two runs scored and a pair of RBIs.

In Game 2, Nokomis graduate Sara Packard picked up the win with three scoreless innings in relief for UMPI (1-1).

BASEBALL

SOUTHERN MAINE 7-14, WORCESTER STATE 4-2: Messalonskee graduate Sam Dexter went 4 for 9 on the day as the Huskies swept Worcester State. Dexter had a double, an RBI and a run scored in Game 1 and followed that with a double, two singles, three RBIs and four runs scored in Game 2.

Also for the Huskies, Erskine graduate Shyler Scates started the first game, pitching 6 2/3 innings, allowing eight hits, four runs, two earned runs while striking out four. Dexter’s younger brother, Jake, added a single and a run scored in Game 2 as well.

WRESTLING

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — University of Southern Maine junior Daniel Del Gallo, of Gardiner, split his four matches and reached the second round of the consolation bracket in the 149-pound division at the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships on Friday.

Del Gallo, who was unseeded entering the tournament and was making his second appearance at nationals, opened Friday with a 10-4 decision over Roy Munroe, of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. He then fell to fifth-seeded Seth Lansberry, of Lycoming, 3-2.

In the consolation bracket, Del Gallo defeated Mason Bohm, of Wisconsin-Platteville, 6-4, before concluding his tournament with a 5-3 loss to sixth-seeded Rashad Kennedy, of Augsburg.
