BOSTON — Messalonskee High School alum Mara Balboni scored six goals to help the University of Maine at Farmington open its lacrosse season with a 10-9 victory over Wheelock College on Sunday.

Jaclyn Langevin added two goals for the Beavers while Rhi Jackson and Carly Raymond each found the back of the net once. Alyssa Arsenault of Winthrop made her collegiate debut in net for UMF and made three saves.

SOFTBALL

NEW MEXICO ST. 7, MAINE 5: New Mexico State rallied from a 5-0 deficit to defeat Maine in a non-conference softball game played in Clearwater, Fla.

Janelle Bouchard had two doubles and drove in two runs for the Black Bears (4-5). Annie Kennedy took the loss after allowing 12 hits, a walk and six earned runs in 5.2 innings. Fiana Finau homered and knocked in three for the Aggies (20-10).

BASEBALL

STETSON 7, MAINE 6: Stetson scored three times in the bottom of the eighth to rally to defeat Maine in a non-conference game played in Deland, Fla.

Colin Ridley had three hits, including a double, and three RBIs while Tyler Schwanz tripled and doubled for the Black Bears (4-11). Jacob Koos drove in three for Stetson (10-7).
