DETROIT — Voters at Town Meeting on Saturday will be asked to change the name of a town road and to enact a driveway entrances and culvert policy.

Polls will be open for voting in Town Meeting elections from 1 to 7 p.m. Friday at Dorothy R. Cookson School, where the Town Hall is located.

In voting for one open seat on the Board of Selectmen, Ethan Kelley is running unopposed for a three-year term. Debbie Killam is running unopposed for a three-year term on the School Administrative District 53 board of directors.

The annual business meeting, during which voters will act on the 38-article town warrant, is set for 1 p.m. Saturday, also at the Town Hall.

Town Clerk Kathy Walston said last year’s municipal budget approved by voters came in at $356,469. If all of the articles are approved as written Saturday, the budget for the coming year would be about $20,000 less at $336,895. Walston said spending to complete two projects, if approved Saturday, would come out of the town’s general fund, not from new taxes; and that and would not affect the current tax rate of $15 for every $1,000 in property valuation.

The projects are $90,000 for hot-topping Basford Road and $6,500 to put new siding on the Town Hall.

A proposal in Article 34 on Saturday asks the town to change the name of Weeman Road to Taylor Roy Road. Walston said the only residents on the road — Michael Roy and Terry Taylor — want to name the road after themselves. Michael Roy has agreed to pay all the costs associated with the change, including road signs.

Watson said the road is named for the Weeman family, most of whom have left the area. She said the road is short and is discontinued at its end.

In another article, Detroit residents will be asked to adopt a driveway entrances and culvert policy to ensure that no one builds a driveway without first getting a permit from the Board of Selectmen. An applicant would be required to have a site plan and selectmen would determine whether a culvert is needed. The policy outlines specifications for culverts, the costs of which would be picked by the landowner.

In other voting Saturday on the meeting floor, selectmen and the Budget Committee recommend passage of a proposal to take $147,000 from excise taxes to lower appropriations and use $39,677 from state revenue sharing. Voters also will be asked to spend $42,716 for Town Office employees, $24,500 for town officials and $44,400 for designated accounts, including street lights, town charges and legal services.

There also are proposals to raise $5,000 for general maintenance of town roads, $65,500 for winter roads and $33,000 for the Fire Department.
