CLEARWATER, Fla. — Abby Hooper scored two goals to lead a balanced attack as the Colby women’s lacrosse team sank Union College 12-8 in a non-conference game Monday afternoon.

The Mules (3-1) had 11 players score. Kendall Smith had a goal and two assists, while Claire Caputi, Bridget Horwood and Kelsey Bowen each had a goal and an assist. Emma Marjollet, Gemma Bready, Dana Swaffield, Celeste Murtha, Lexie Perticone and Chrissy Coveney also scored for Colby.

Maggie Comiskey led Union (1-2) with three goals.

SOFTBALL

LAWRENCE 8, UMF 1: The Vikings scored seven runs in the final three innings to pull away from the Beavers in Clermont, Florida.

Jessica Demski led Lawrence (4-1) from the circle, as the senior right hander allowed just one run on four hits and one walk while striking out two in seven innings.

UMF (1-4) got its lone run in the bottom of the fourth when Alison Hamilton scored on a fielder’s choice on a ball hit to short by Meryl Bond. The Beavers also played a game against Hamilton Monday night, but results were unavailable at press time.

THOMAS OPENS SEASON: The Terriers began their season with a pair of losses Monday in Clermont, Florida, first falling to Oswego State 3-1 and later succumbing to St. Thomas (Minnesota) 16-2 in five innings.

In the first game, Korrie Laren scored an unearned run in the top of the second to give Thomas an early lead but Oswego responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead for good. Sonja Morse took the loss for the Terriers, allowing three runs on five hits and three walks while striking out five in six innings.

In the nightcap, Lauren and Lindsy Hoopingarner collected RBI singles in the bottom of the first to give Thomas a 2-1 lead, but St. Thomas exploded for 15 runs in the top of the third to run away with the win.
