Chesterville residents will vote on a 49-article town warrant and a $842,999 proposed budget Monday at Town Meeting.

The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the Town Office. It originally was scheduled to be held March 14, when town election was held, but a malfunctioning boiler at Town Hall prompted a delay in the budget formulation process.

The proposed budget is $42,340 less than last year’s budget, according to the town treasurer.

Also included in the warrant is an article asking residents to appropriate $9,000 for cemetery maintenance, as well as an article asking for $100,000 for capital road improvement projects.

Selectmen also included an article posing the idea of having two tax collection dates per year. Chesterville taxes now are collected Dec. 14, leaving selectmen short of money during their fiscal year. Selectmen are suggesting that taxes be collected in June and then again in December, with 50 percent of annual property taxes due on each date.

The article is intended to find out what residents think of the idea, and no change would be implemented this year, according to the Chesterville town clerk.
