SALEM — A Trades Night Career Fair, is planned for 5-7 p.m. Monday, April 11, at Mt. Abram High School.

Some of Maine’s largest skilled trades employers and many of Maine’s trades education schools will be represented, according to a news release from the high school.

Attendees to talk one on one with employers and colleges about what it takes to get a good-paying job in the skilled trade professions.

Skilled trades careers are those labor jobs which require specific training, such as a plumber, welder, electrician, heavy equipment operation, etc. The fair, is an opportunity for community members to explore careers in the trades. Some presenters are looking to hire new employees in the trades while others will help train new employees to learn a new trade.

Employers and school include: Cianbro, Bath Iron Works, Reed & Reed, Barclays, Backyard Farms, Eastern Maine Community College, Washington County Community College, Central Maine Community College, Kennebec County Community College, Southern Maine Community College, Maine School of Masonry, Franklin County Adult Basic Education, Beal College, Northeast Technical Institute – Bangor, Foster Tech CTE and Wilton Career Center.

The evening also will include drawings for prizes, a 50/50 raffle benefit for the Mt. Abram Trades Scholarship, and refreshments.

The event is sponsored by Mt. Abram College Access Team, MELMAC Grant, Gear-Up Grant.
