A tractor-trailer rollover 3 miles from the Canadian border in Coburn Gore stopped traffic for nearly two hours early Tuesday, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department.
Around 6:10 a.m., Eric Dubois, of Woburn, Quebec, was driving a 2016 Western Star tractor-trailer carrying a load of logs on Route 27. Police say he was driving too fast for the icy road conditions, and the back end of his trailer began to slip off the road. Dubois overcorrected and the vehicle rolled onto the driver’s side, blocking both lanes of Route 27.
Responding officer Cpl. Kevin Hartley said police were able to open one lane around 7:43 a.m. No other vehicles were involved in the accident, and Dubois was not hurt.
When Hartley arrived at the scene, about 20 tractor-trailers were backed up in the northbound and southbound lanes.
Hartley said the front end of the tractor-trailer struck the guard rail after the vehicle rolled, and the logs spilled out of the back of the truck. A Coburn Gore man brought equipment to the accident scene to make the tractor-trailer upright and used a crane to return the logs to the truck.
Hartley said the tractor-trailer was destroyed in the accident and was towed back to Canada. He said Dubois was delivering the logs to a factory in Skowhegan.
Maine State Police, NorthStar EMS and Eustis Fire and Rescue assisted at the scene.
