Sean Grossman, the Westbrook man armed with a handgun who was shot by police Saturday, was released from the hospital Monday and taken into police custody on numerous charges related to the standoff.
Grossman, 26, was released about 1:30 p.m. Monday from Maine Medical Center in Portland and subsequently transported to the Cumberland County Jail, Westbrook police said.
Grossman was charged with domestic violence assault, domestic violence criminal threatening, domestic violence terrorizing, violating conditional release, refusing to submit to arrest, and three counts of criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon.
Grossman was shot in the face by Westbrook police Officer Benjamin Hall.
Police responded to 108 Longfellow St. in Westbrook about 6 a.m. Saturday for a report of a suicidal man with a gun.
Hall shot Grossman after Grossman got in a struggle with Westbrook police Detective Daniel Violette, according to police.
The Maine Attorney General’s Office is investigating the use of deadly force by the officer, as is customary. The officer has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
The incident took place outside the property, which includes a sprawling antique white clapboard home with multiple brick chimneys and at least three residential units inside.
Grossman had run-ins with Westbrook police in the past and was convicted of criminal use of disabling chemicals and assault in 2011, disorderly conduct in 2010 and theft in 2008, police said.
Hall has never before been involved in a deadly force incident, according to the Westbrook Police Department.
