Winthrop High School has announced its top 10 seniors for the class of 2016. They will be honored by the Mountain Valley Conference on May 4 at Thomas College in Waterville.

Tyler Reid Nussinow is valedictorian, and Emma Walsh Conrad is salutatorian. The following eight, listed alphabetically, include Olivia Jeanne Audet, Alison Lynn Berube, Jada Choate, Kennedy Renée Connor, Celeste True Hannum, Julie Thuong Armentrout McConnell, Jessica Leigh Tozer and Dustin Deric Tripp.

Nussinow, is the son of Todd Nussinow, of Portland, and Tracey and Steven Prescott, of Winthrop. He is a member of the Boys Soccer Club, senior captain; Alpine Ski Team, junior varsity lacrosse and varsity lacrosse. He is a member of the Student Council, senior vice-president; Math Team and National Honor Society. Nussinow also was a member of the Drama Club competing in the One-Act-Play Competition. He was part of the Mentoring Program.

Nussinow plans to attend college majoring in biology.

Conrad, is the daughter of Eric Conrad and Barbara Walsh, of Winthrop. She has been a member of several clubs and teams over her four years: field hockey, varsity track and field, varsity cross-country skiing, Latin Club, Math Team and Drama Club. She was class council secretary and a Student Council member. She also is a member of the National Honor Society.

Conrad plans to attend the University of New Haven majoring in forensic accounting.

Audet is the daughter of David and Rachel Audet, of Winthrop. A tri-athlete, she was on the field hockey team, junior and senior captain; and a member of the Nordic Ski and the Girls Tennis teams. She also is a member of the Latin Club, Drama Club and the Math Team. She was elected to the National Honor Society, junior and senior secretary. Her other activities include participating in the Relay for Life and serving as a volunteer coach in the Youth Field Hockey Program.

Audet plans to attend college majoring in biology on a pre-med track.

Berube is the daughter of Paul and Jennifer Berube, of Winthrop. She also is enrolled in classes at Capital Area Technical Center and was named Student of the Month in January. She joined cross-country team and then the track & field team. She has been involved with the mentoring program and with the Civil Air Patrol.

Berube plans to attend college majoring in economics.

Choate is the daughter of Tom and Kelle Choate, of Winthrop. A member of the cross-country team, senior varsity head captain; Nordic skiing, sophomore, junior and senior varsity head captain; and U16 Junior Olympic Team Qualifier. She also was a member of the Maine State Nordic Team and a Eastern High School Race Qualifier. She also is on the Track & Field Team, junior captain.

Choate is a member of the Latin Club, sophomore-senior vice-president; the Latin Honor Society and the Junior Classical League, National Honor Society; chapter president; Class Council vice-president and Student Council. She also took part in the One-Act Play Competition, she is a flutist in the band. Outside of school she has been a volunteer in the Winthrop Youth Football Program.

Choate plans to study neuroscience/pre-med at Quinnipiac University.

Connor is the daughter of Marc and Laura Connor, of Winthrop. She is a member of the Drama Club, French Club, Adolescent Advocates of Maine peer mentor, Student Council president, as well as vice-president and treasurer; class president and Girls Soccer Team.

Connor plans to attend The College of Saint Rose majoring in communication sciences and disorders.

Hannum is the daughter of Jamie and Lynn Hannum, of Winthrop. She is a member of the Latin Club, elected officer; and the Drama Club. Athletically, she played field hockey and was on the Tennis Team, junior and senior captain. She has spent many hours after school working to ensure that the performing arts facility ran smoothly for various groups and performers.

Hannum plans to attend Emerson College in Massachusetts majoring in theater design/technology.

McConnell is the daughter of Jennifer McConnell and Lori Small, of Winthrop. She played field hockey, junior and senior caption; and ran track & field, junior captain. She is a member of the Student Council, Latin and Drama clubs and is a member of the National Honor Society.

McConnell plans to attend college majoring in business management.

Tozer is the daughter of Sheldon and Amy Tozer, of Winthrop. She has led a varied and active school career. She was elected to the National Honor Society, a member of the Robotics Team, Math Team and Latin Club, junior state officer and senior local officer. She was on the Girls Soccer Team and was the boy’s soccer manager and was a chorus member. Tozer also served as a Senior Class Night assistant, and was part of the Adolescent Advocates of Maine. Outside of school Tozer has served as a youth group leader and is a volunteer at the Maine Greyhound Placement Service.

Tozer plans to attend Gordon College in Massachusetts majoring in marine biology.

Tripp is the son of Deric Tripp and Cathy Cook, of Wayne. He has been a member of the football and track teams all four years.

Tripp plans to attend the University of New England majoring in medical biology in a pre-med program.
