Matthew Forgues of Boothbay and Kayla Allen of Lewiston are among a group of 21 athletes who will represent the United States at the World Race Walking Team Championships, scheduled for May 7-8 in Rome.
Forgues, 24, was chosen to race in the men’s 20K event, and Allen, a Lewiston High junior, is on the junior women’s 10K roster.
Tom Menendez of Lewiston is also part of the U.S. team as an assistant coach. Menendez is a cross country and track and field coach at Monmouth Academy.
Carrabassett Valley Academy students Chase Blakely, Nick Malone and Eli McDermott and Coach Will Rivera were selected to attend the United States Ski and Snowboard Association’s Project Gold Camp, which features the best junior snowboarders in the U.S.
The camp started Sunday at Mammoth Mountain in California and continues through Sunday.
Jim Mickiewicz made a hole-in-one on the eighth hole at Sable Oaks Golf Club on April 28. He used a pitching wedge for the 135-yard shot, which was witnessed by Paul Kent, Wade Millett and Chris Jacques.
