The Gibbs Library will present a two-month exhibit of hooked rugs by Washington resident Kathy Yoder in Washington Village. The exhibit will open Thursday, May 5, and continue through July 5.

Yoder has been hooking rugs for the past 34 years. She hooks her own designs in the traditional style using strips of wool that she cuts by hand with scissors. She hand draws the designs onto a backing of Scottish linen.

The rugs are made of 100 percent wool which are hand colored using both commercial and natural dyes. The themes of Yoder’s pieces are of a folk art style She draws inspiration from her time growing up in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Yoder and her husband moved to Maine about seven years ago.

Library hours are 4-7 p.m. Mondays, 9 a.m.-noon and 4-7 p.m. Tuesdays, 3-6 p.m. Thursdays, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturdays and 2-5.
