Scarborough police are trying to determine the origin of an old tombstone or property marker that was left in the closet of a hotel room.
The stone – marked only with the engraved initials “E.B.” – was found in the closet after the renter had vacated the room, Scarborough police said.

Police have checked with local historians and cemeteries but have yet to find out where it was taken from. The stone measures about 24 inches high and 10 inches wide.
Anyone with information about the stone is asked to call Officer Douglas Weed at 730-4322.
