A couple who decided to get some flight training on a seaplane had a more exciting experience than they expected, according the WCSH-TV.

Deniz Burnham and Todd Buckley were flying over the Androscoggin River when they spotted a man in a boat that seemed to be taking on water.

Burnham and Buckley landed their plane, taxied to shore and found some people with a new boat who were willing to go out and rescue the man.

But after bringing the man on board their boat, the rescuers attempted to tow the swamped boat to shore. The heavy load ripped the new boat’s engine from its mount and it capsized.

The rescued and the rescuers – including three children – all made it safely back to the boat ramp with the help of of local law enforcement personnel.
