Candidates running for the Readfield Select Board were asked for their thoughts on how to encourage volunteerism in Readfield. Our incumbent candidate responded with, “Apathy and complacency is rampant in Readfield as it is across the United States.”

In stark contrast, Select Board candidate John Parent acknowledged the great group of volunteers that exists and how policies and procedures should not limit people’s involvement.

Candidate Kathryn Woodsum, using the Trails Committee and library as examples, stated, “These programs needed to be adequately funded to purchase materials so that volunteers would be inspired to come forward.”

We need representation on the Select Board that mirrors the vibrancy of the volunteers in Readfield.

That is why we, and so many other volunteers, will vote for Kathryn Woodsum and John Parent for the Select Board on June 14.
