On Saturday, May 14, the Waterville area postal carriers, community members, and volunteers from local food pantries and the Evening Sandwich/Soup Program receive over 5,500 pounds of food donated by the local communities. This annual Postal Carriers Food Drive is dedicated to help stop hunger.

The saying “It takes a village” certainly applies to the effort by all concerned. This drive begins with the generous folks on the postal carriers’ route who leave bags of nonperishable food at their mailboxes. The carriers, then, in addition to delivering the mail, must stop and load the donations into the back of the mail truck. The food is transported to the Waterville Post Office, weighted, and loaded into trucks by the volunteers, headed up by Dave Dawson.

This annual food drive is a joy and a blessing. It is so heartwarming to see the various pantries receive food to feed the hungry in our area. To all involved, please know you have made a positive difference in so many lives.
