Augusta’s Capital Area Technical Center has announced its May Students of the Month, according to a news release from the center.

Alexander Thang, a Gardiner Area High School senior, is enrolled in the auto body program.

“Alex always comes to class prepared and ready to work. He has a positive attitude and is willing to try new skills and techniques,” his instructor Phil Dow said in the release,

Thang feels the class has prepared him to go out into the world of work. When he is not in class, Thang is playing football, basketball or lifting weights to prepare for the upcoming Lobster Bowl.

Patrick Turgeon, a Maranacook Community High School senior enrolled for the second year in the plumbing and heating program.

“Patrick is always motivated and team driven. When working on class projects in the shop, he can be counted on to lead, assist or help other students,” his instructor,Paul Kennedy said in the release. Turgeon medaled in the SkillsUSA state competition in heating last year and plumbing this year.”

Turgeon feels the program has taught him leadership qualities. He has learned that he is not only accountable to himself, but also to everybody working together on a project. In the fall, Turgeon plans to attend Kennebec Valley Community College and complete the energy services technology program.
