BIDDEFORD — Brandon Giberson, D.O., son of Gregory and Ellen Giberson, of Bingham, was recently awarded the degree of Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine during commencement ceremonies held at Merrill Auditorium.

At a reception prior to commencement, Giberson was awarded the University’s “Salter Award,” which is given to one distinguished graduate each year who possesses the skills and character the faculty would desire in their family physician.

At commencement, Giberson marched with cords for membership in the Sigma Sigma Phi Honor Society as well as the Gold Humanism Honor Society.

Giberson will complete a residency in emergency medicine at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. At Emory, he will train in one of the largest emergency department’s in the nation, serving as a physician at the safety-net hospital for the entire Metro-Atlanta area of more than five million people. Following residency, Giberson plans to return to Maine to practice emergency medicine.
