Belgrade Public Library will kick off its summer reading program. On Your Mark, Get Set … Read! is this year’s theme. The program runs through Aug. 20.

Children can earn small rewards as they reach reading goals throughout the summer and those that read at least 10 books before Aug. 20 will receive a free book.

The following events are planned for the summer program.

• Mad Science of Maine “Olympic Madness” is set for 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, June 28, at Belgrade Community Center for All Seasons. The interactive children’s show explores the FUN-damentals of the science of sports. Scientists will light the Mad Science Olympic torch using a spectacular combustion reaction with colored flames. Participants can test the strength and discover the wonders of air pressure in a Tug-of-War challenge, learn about the science behind cycling with a gyroscope, explore energy transformation in soccer and tennis, become a gymnast, and experiment with the center of gravity.

• Chewonki Traveling Natural History program will present Animal Fitness from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, at Belgrade Community Center for All Seasons. The children’s show will discuss world-record-holding animals and look at how their skeletons, muscles and overall fitness help them accomplish impressive movements. Participants can meet three live non-releasable animals with unique abilities of their own.

• MineCraft is set for 3-6 p.m. every Thursday at Belgrade Public Library. Participants can ind a world of strange creatures, dig for precious ores and gems, or build a home.

• Story Time & Craft Projects are planned for 10:30-11:30 p.m. every Thursday at Belgrade Public Library. A variety of read-alouds for all ages will be followed by a craft project. The weekly themes are posted in the library and online at the beginning of each month.

All programs are free and open to the public. For more information, call 495-3508.
