Patsy Crockett won the race for the Democratic nomination for District 1 Kennebec County commissioner on Tuesday, defeating two opponents.

Crockett, in unofficial results, received 662 votes to top the second-place Patrick Paradis, who received 413 votes; and Carl Pease, who received 131.

“I’m certainly very, very pleased to get the confirmation from the voters and I look forward to the November election,” Crockett said Tuesday night. “We have a great team. I didn’t do this alone, I had many people helping out.”

Crockett, of Augusta, was in a three-way race for the spot, against Paradis, of Augusta, and Pease, of Windsor.

In Augusta, according to unofficial results, Crockett received 300 votes, Paradis received 253 and Pease received 36.

Crockett won in three of the city’s four wards, with Paradis taking Ward 3, 79-46.

Crockett, 75, served two terms in the Maine House of Representatives and is a former lobbyist for the Maine Sheriffs’ Association and Maine county commissioners. A resident of Augusta and a Cony High School graduate, Crockett is married to Robert Crockett, a former Kennebec County treasurer. She has served as a volunteer for more than a dozen organizations.

Crockett also took China, where she received 53 votes to Paradis’ nine and Pease’s 11.

Crockett will face Republican Kristin Clark, of Augusta, and independent Jeremy Pare, of Manchester, in the general election in November.

The three-way race for the Democratic nomination was a repeat of the nomination process that played out last year, to replace Commissioner Beverly Daggett, who died in September.

Crockett, Paradis and Pease submitted their names for consideration in October 2015 to the Kennebec County Democratic Committee, which was tasked with finding a replacement for Daggett.

Later that month, the committee selected Crockett and Paradis and submitted those names to Gov. Paul LePage for consideration. The county commissioners, absent action from LePage, sent a letter to him in December, urging him to act on the appointment.

Some four months later, in February, LePage appointed Crockett to serve until the end of this year to complete Daggett’s term.

In other Tuesday voting results, Crockett took Sidney as well, with 63 votes. Paradis received 41 votes, while Pease got 15.

Paradis took the town of Chelsea, with 42 votes to Crockett’s 36 and Pease’s 13.

In Manchester, Crockett received 120 votes to Paradis’ 48 and Pease’s nine.

In Vassalboro, Crockett received 63 votes, Paradis 16, and Pease 11.

In Windsor, according to Crockett, she received 27 votes to Paradis’ 4 and Pease had 36.

Paradis, 62, is an Augusta city councilor representing Ward 3, a position he cannot keep because of the city’s term limits. He served in the state House of Representatives from 1978 to 1994, holding leadership positions including assistant majority leader and majority whip. He also served two terms in the elected position of Kennebec County treasurer.

Pease, 62, who is retired, was town manager in Windsor for three years and has experience as a professional parliamentarian, including serving as moderator of town meetings.

District 1 consists of Augusta, Chelsea, China, Manchester, Sidney, Vassalboro and Windsor.
